Marvel’s Daredevil

Forget House of Cards, forget Orange is the New Black, and most importantly forget Jessica Jones, Netflix’s new hit superhero drama is back and grittier than ever.  Marvel’s Daredevil is the show to binge watch, I have almost finished season two and have not been disappointed at all.  Daredevil is a show that will leave you biting your nails with surprises at every corner, amazing cinematography, great action sequences, and a cliff hanger in every episode.

So after Ben Affleck’s 2003 movie flop, also named Daredevil, the Marvel Cinematic Universe decided to give the much loved character of Matt Murdock/ Daredevil another opportunity to shine.  They teamed up with the media giant of Netflix to create a tv show consisting of thirteen episodes per season and BAM!! Daredevil tv show was born.

Daredevil revolves around the double life of Matt Murdock, 3o something bachelor in Hell’s Kitchen, New York, who is a lawyer by day and vigilante at night.  He beats up criminals and saves people from being hurt in Hell’s Kitchen, you know just your average lawyer/vigilante.

So Daredevil is a great fighter, he is constantly getting in a fight with the criminals that roam around his city.  He gets stabbed, punched, chained, shot at, and on one occasion had fire thrown at him, he stands his ground and keeps going.  You would think that he has experience in the army or some crap like that, well no.  See, Matt Murdock is blind.  Yep, you read right ladies and gentleman, Matt Murdock/Daredevil is blind. So how does he fight so well?

Well quick biology lesson for you guys, when someone loses one of their senses their remaining senses are amplified to make up for that sense that they lost.  When Matt lost his eyesight after the accident when he was a little boy, his remaining four senses were amplified even better.  Making him “see” a lot better.  His powers include, having super human hearing and being able to predict when and where someone is going to punch him by keeping track of people’s movement and by the way they carry themselves.  This is what makes him such a great fighter, he calculates first and then he punches.

But despite being a great fighter, Matt Murdock is a great lawyer.  He runs his own firm, Nelson and Murdock, with his fellow friend Foggy Nelson and secretary Karen Page.

Matt and Foggy make a great team, together they are able to bring many villains to justice like Wilson Fisk, the ultimate kingpin of Hell’s Kitchen.  Their secretary Karen Page, isn’t just a pretty face she is an avid researcher and contributes a lot to the main plot of the season and to the court cases that Matt and Foggy take on.  Karen and Matt, in season two, develop a relationship that makes any girl fangirl over their romance.

The great thing about Daredevil is that even though it has a lot of action, there is mystery, romance, underlying social and political messages, and great characters.  The show appeals to any audience and is a show that you won’t want to miss.

All two seasons currently streaming on Netflix.
